What are we learning in class? Theme: Nursery Rhymes

- Hearing rhyming words in a nursery rhyme
- Preparing for writing by drawing lines and circles
- Listening for first sounds in our environment
MATH
- Count to tell how many
- Recognize, read, write numerals 0-5
- Compare number of objects within 10 using "more/greater," "less," or "equal."
- Find ways to make 3-5
WRITING (goals throughout the year)
- After reading a text, write key details about what the author/illustrator informed us about, using a combination of dictation, drawings, and writing. Words should have many sounds heard and basic sight words should be spelled correctly (a, the, see).
- Write an opinion piece including supporting evidence.
- Write a narrative piece including some sort of beginning, middle, and end.
- Sentences should look like 5-Star writing:
- uppercase letter at the beginning
- rest of letters should be lowercase and should be written on writing lines correctly
- spaces between words
- words are sounded out phonetically
- end punctuation (period)
